We all know how important it is to get to know everyone in the team as it helps in cooperation and pacing up the work.

But, to know your teammates you must get yourself into listening mode!

Yeah we know, You must be wondering how to make them speak out of random situations!

Ask questions — it’s one of the best ways to listen well.

The only way to know your team well is by asking them questions related to work as well as personal interests!

Here are 10 best Icebreakers to ask your teammates!

Do not hesitate and ask them right now!

1. What was your first job?

you might find it hilarious to learn that your mate’s first job was as a pool boy or find it fascinating by knowing his/her first job was working in her dad’s office. As it is not assumable the responses always stand out.

2. Have you ever met anyone famous?

This is a really fun one, as it taps into the people that your team members admire. You’ll have a laugh when your manager shares her story about meeting ‘Kohli’ in Bangalore’s traffic during IPL season.

3. What are you reading/learning right now?

People always look for something new to learn. Recommending books is a great way for people to know each other. Knowing what they are reading also provides you with insights into their interests.

4. Seen any good movies lately you’d recommend?

Conversations about movies are like instant Icebreakers. Often times you might end up going to see the movies that you talk about over lunch, etc.

5. Got any favorite Sayings?

Asking about their favorite quotes or sayings will give you a fascinating look into that person’s point-of-view. Knowing a person’s favorite quote is a great way to break the ice and get to know them better.

6. What’s your favorite place you’ve ever visited?

Get fascinated to find that some folks have the same “favorite place” you’ve visited last Sunday, or a place that happens to be a Chai spot, just 20 minutes from where you live.

7. Got any phobias you’d like to break?

Sharing fears are one of a great way to feel closer to someone. You might even make a connection knowing that you both can’t swim and are afraid of water.

8. Do you collect anything?

Stop asking “What are your hobbies?” and ask this instead. You might find that someone is unexpectedly a unique stone collector, or enjoys collecting bus tickets every time she/he travels (I did this by the way). Isn’t it a fascinating way to learn about a person’s interest?

9. Who had the most influence on you growing up?

Father, a sports hero, grandparent, or a school teacher… This question is touching to hear the answer to. You’ll gain a sense of respect and empathy for them about who has shaped their life to a major extent.

10. What is the last song in your music player?

You’ll find out that you both have the same taste of music and maybe find it humorous to find the generational difference between your teammates and you.

We’ve used these questions to get to know more about new employees’ in our office, even in one-on-one coffee meetings when meeting someone for the first time.

Now Go try this and get back to hit the clap button for the surprising results.
